After 20 years of expressing concern to provincial and federal governments about the industrial salmon farms on the B.C. coast, protesters planned to spend the next few weeks raising awareness of the issue.
The protest, called Get Out Migration for Wild Salmon, was set to begin Thursday night in Sointula, a fishing village on Malcolm Island off the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, biologist Alexandra Morton said in an interview earlier this week from Broughton Archipelago at Echo Bay north of Vancouver Island.
She has been at the centre of the controversy to have Norwegian salmon farms removed from the migration routes of the wild salmon. She and her followers are asking that the farms be moved onto land away from the routes to "allow wild salmon to be restored.''
